Oh, the desperation!

Women Propose, Man Disposes

JEDDAH β€” When a 25-year-old Saudi recently placed an ad in a local newspaper to sell his apartment, he was overwhelmed with the response. Ninety percent of the calls were from women asking about the apartment. Twenty-two of the women who called to ask the price of the apartment, also wanted to know if he was interested in marrying them. One of the female callers offered to pay for everything if he agreed to marry her. She also offered to pay him SR5,000 as a monthly salary. The exasperated youth said: β€œSuch calls are very strange and annoying at the same time. The irony is that I am getting married next week in Makkah.”

Now, it is known that Saudi Arabia have a very high rate and number of unmarried women. According to a study, the number of saudi females who never got married, who are over 18 is close to 1.5 million. Now, the story above happened in Jeddah I assume, and according to that study there is around 400,000 never married females in that province. now let’s do that math πŸ™‚

Okay, this is the thing Isam. Hey that’s my middle name. I digress. Anyway, Why is it such a big deal if a girl is over 18 and not married yet? That is such a young age. What is this obsession with marriage, especially for women? I am not against marriage, not at all. But why is it so important that a woman get married at ayoung age? Why? Dont we believe in Naseeb? If it is meant to be thant dont rush it. It will happen.

I’m with you on that point, Natasha. Women in our countries get married so early, that a 25-year-old girl feels she’ll never get married.

They should all form a league.
Reminds me of a joke I heard about a woman who was 10 months pregnant. That part is true. She just wouldn’t go to labor. Anyways, they did one of those sonar things and found the kid sitting on a chair with a sign say “Hell no, I won’t go”!

I don’t get it. Why would you call this particular guy and ask for marriage? Do Saudi girls just call any boy they can find and ask the same thing or was something so special about this guy?

Don’t know, maybe he was considered a good catch cause he is 25 and has his own apartment!

Linda: in a community like the Saudi one, where work for women is frowned upon, being married at a young age is what a community expects, and the girl hope for I assume.
Natasha: yes, I was there.. No thank you πŸ™‚
