A special appeal

The wreathIt has been two months since Christmas past and still the husband insists upon keeping the Christmas wreath on our front door. All my efforts to convince him to remove have been to no avail. One day with Amal’s assistance, I even took it off the door and hid it. It didn’t take the husband more than 10 minutes to find it and put it back up there. For some reason he can’t let go. We can’t keep a Christmas item on display forever, can we? Isn’t this supposed to bring bad luck or something?

I’ve about reached the end of my rope here, so I’m appealing to the Internet community at-large to convince my dear hubby to remove this decoration from our door. If you think I’m in the right here please make yourself heard. If you side with the husband then go away … kidding 😉 You can try to convince me if you must.

Zade Dirani plays on

Zade DiraniJordanian composer and pianist Zade Dirani will present his blend of Arabic and Western music to Holland-area audiences at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the historic Park Theatre in downtown Holland. Dirani, 24, has won several prestigious awards and has performed before thousands in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.

He studied Eastern Arabic scales and contemporary Western music at the National Music Conservatory in Amman, Jordan, and Berklee College of Music in Boston. At 19, Dirani performed with the Jordanian National Symphony Orchestra and Choir at the ancient citadel in downtown Amman. Since then he has performed before Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth and the British royal family, and other dignitaries

It seems Ziad Dirani continues to go places. Good for him. I remember attending one of his concerts in Amman at the Citadel years ago. I thought then he was pretty good. Sadly enough, you have to leave Jordan in order to make it on the international scene.

Another night on the Corniche

Deep Doha Discussion

Here are another few pictures of Doha by night taken during our second long walk along the Corniche. All enlarge with a click. My favorite is this one on the left.

If you look closely you can see Amal and I (with our backs to the camera by the tree) during a very serious conversation. In the ‘Continue reading …’ section is the Corniche bay with the famous seafood restaurant Al Bandar and the Doha Dhow dinner and coffe shop cruise ship moored near the Sheraton.

Tennis anyone?

Dubai never ceases to amaze me. The pictures enlarge on click. Click here for a Burj al Arab reference.

In preparation for the Dubai Duty Free Men’s Open, tennis legend, Andre Agassi and the world No. 1, Roger Federer, couldn’t resist the temptation to have a friendly knock about on the world’s highest tennis court, the helipad of Burj Al Arab, the world’s most luxurious hotel. Both players are in Dubai to compete in the US$1 million Dubai Duty Free Men’s Open, which is the first round of the two-week Dubai Tennis Championships.

Is this cool or what? Will Dubai ever stop producing creative, out-of-this-world ideas? I doubt it. It really is fantasyland.
