‘Moving sucks’

As Ameen said on his blog: “moving sucks," and moving is exactly what we’ve been doing for the past two days. We moved north into the DC metro region after finding a lovely, quaint apartment that will hold us for awhile. I’m really exhausted and can barely finish this post. I might not be able to update this blog for a bit as I really don’t know when everything will be sorted out at our place. I need some time to settle down so I can get back to blogging regulary. We’ll see how it goes. Meanwhile, I leave you with this New York Times’ piece that managed to sour my mood. It is about ‘Jordanian Jihadists.’Take a look if you feel like ruining your day.

My prayers go out to Jordan and my people

I just read Ameen’s post about an expected al-Qaeda attack in Jordan and I don’t think I’m going to be able to sleep tonight. I really don’t know what will I do if those blood suckers come near my country. But to keep sane I’m trying to be skeptical and downplay the reliability of the news source. AHH!!! My prayers go out to Jordan and my people. May God protect you from the barbarians!

On a lighter note, Jameed has posted some fun pictures of his recent trip to Amman including a photo of a restaurant that opens 25 hours! Take a look. It might cheer you up after this dose of bad news.

Jordanian in the North Pole

Sandyupnorth

My friend S (aka the cook) sent me this picture of her recent trip to the North Pole. Now isn’t this cool! What amused me in this picture is the fact that even in the North Pole she made sure to wrap the Jordanian red scarf around her neck! Aseeleh, as we say in Jordan! [Click to enlarge]

Some ‘Dirty pretty things’

Dirty_pretty_thingsLast night we finally watched the English movie Dirty Pretty Things. We had it laying around for a while but never got around to watching it for some reason. Maybe it was because we were not worried about late fees thanks to the Blockbuster online rental program.

Anyway, I thought this BBC production starring Audrey Tautou from Amelie was very enjoyable with a powerful message. It follows the plight of illegal immigrants in London. It tackles the myriad of problems they face and explores a number of people that exploit them along their way. The star of the movie — in my humble opinion — was Chiwetel Ejiofor, who so powerfully played the character of Okwe, an illegal Nigerian immigrant doctor working in London as a hotel receptionist and taxi driver. As for Tautou, she shined as usual. Three thumbs up! I give it 8/10

When will this end?

We were away all day. But as soon as we got back we heard about the horrible bombings in Sharm el Sheikh. Can anyone tell me what’s going on? Why is the world becoming such an ugly place? When will this bloodbath end? It is just sickening, disgusting and barbaric! ENOUGH!

We were in Sharm el Sheikh last year and had such wonderful time. Back then they used to advertise Sharm el Sheikh as the "peaceful city." I guess this no longer applies. Okay, I’m depressed. I’m going to sleep.
